UNAPPROACHABLE LIGHT - MESMERIZED BY THE UNKNOWN
It's not often that we invest much attention in reviewing mere but sometimes one grasps us in such a way that a full review is simply the best decision to make. Unapproachable Light's "Mesmerized By The Unknown" brings with it the wealth of talent that is Wargoat Obscurum of the legendary Cult of Daath and appears to be his main focus musically for right now. With that said, his creative energies once again build something menacing and vile as usual.
The brief dirge "Mysterious Emanations" leads in with a somber buildup to "Ancient Eyes of Gold", which much like ancient Cult of Daath material takes the ghost of Hellhammer and adds a little bit of amephetaime to to mix for more speed than that primordial act gave us. With more riffage and a slight hint a melody while maintaining the overall raw approach, the fully instrumental "Blazing Horizons" invokes long lost and forgotten Scandinavian spirits and reminds us of where the modern roots of what we now call "trve" black metal emanated from. And on "Magic Taphos" Obscurum's low-growled almost sermonized vocals really add an aggressive approach to the dreadful tone of things as the end comes with "Eternal Dreams", slightly over three minutes yet satisfying still with Obscurum showing a bit of deathrock leanings in his vocals and a whole lot of subtlely alluding to Cymophane Productions and Blazebirth Hall in a slow, bitter, and burning cold atmosphere of total despondency.
As dark and dastardly and one would expect from Wargoat Obscurum, this brief yet punishing demo certainly foreshadows the evil that is sure to come down the road as the project gain more momentum, and woe betide us if we dare to interlope in any way.
9/10
