SALÒ ODER DIE 120 TAGE VON SODOM 4K UHD HDR BOX SET BY WICKED VISION MEDIA CONTENT UNBOXING

Nobody asked for this. No really, I'm pretty sure that nobody was clamoring for Salò of all films to get released in such a grandiose, limited, box with more extras than you could ever hope for in the highest possible picture quality that modern technology allows. Yet here we are. And no, I'm not going to even remotely touch of on the film itself and all of its derangend infamy nor that of its troubled soul of a director, for there are more essays and theses written on this matter than imaginable. No, I'd rather just dice into the contents of the box and the elaborate job that Wicked Vision Media has done in an era where boutique media imprints do a much better job than the major labels and studios who now treat their media as mere content and thumbnails and basically throwaway items. Such a disgrace!

The first pic was obviously one of two available cover choices are here is the back of the box.

A numbered certificate is included indicated with number out of 1,500 units is your along with the cover art. I always adored how Germans handwrite the numeral 1!

A very large double-sided poster is included showing English and German market theatrical posters. Whatever theatres showed this then must have been true relics of the past and most likely straddled the purgatory between arthouse and grindhouse. Here's hoping that some still remain standing!

Next we have a rather lengthy book written in German (which sadly I do not understand) that dives deep into the sordid history of the film with pictures, replica newspaper articles and other press materials and interviews about the film that must be a delight for German speakers and surely highly educational whether they know enough about the film or not based on the sheer amount of content. Several individuals are credited as contributors her at the very end.

On to the discs now, the absolute highlights here. As is customary we get an incredible restoration of the film in 4K UHD and standard Blu-ray for those who have yet to upgrade along whtb three commentary tracks from scholars and film historians and new subtitles to beetter match the Italian, German, and English language tracks. A bonus Blu-ray has more documentaries, interviews, and panel discussions than anybody could want with this film, a DVD (yes, one of those!) has a panel discussion in German that's the length of a feature film itself and finally we get a soundtrack CD to top off the five-disc ensemble (you may recall thst back in February ViaOmega chose the soundtrack's Cold Spring Records vinyl release of the soundtrack as one Album Of The Week).

Finally, we seem to have been blessed with a SECOND book that was mentioned before for some reason but hey I'm not complaing and no you can'f have my extra one. It came sealed in a brown Top Secret envelope of sorts along with two double-sided art cards with German on the back. I have also shown the back cover paper (which is the sixth picture below) that is included under the shrinkwrap but is not attached and any way and should be kept as part of the complete package still.

And there you have it. What Wicked Vision has done would have probably been unthinkable a few short years ago but now with the rise of boutique labels and imprints incredibly lavish and exquisite limited releases bursting at the seams with extras and goodies are here once again just as they were during the salad days of DVD proliferating onto the worldwide market.  Are we blessed, or are we cursed? Certainly blessed that we have Wicked Vision among the cinephiles who care enough to give us this(un)holy grail-level offering, cursed that such a notorious film finally gets the accessible release nobody imagined that it ever would generations later!
