DEATHWINDS REVIEW

Updated: Oct 29

DEATHWINDS - ...TOWARDS DOOM...

Finally giving us a full-length after much deliberation, Canada's Deathwinds fit into the uncategorizable style of metal that can best be described as unhinged with all things death, black, thrash, and even punk mishmashed together to create the ultimate hellscape. And seemingly pissed off beyond belief, they sure do know how exactly to go straight for the jugular with their weaponized audial outbursts!

Slow and steady starts "The Burning Path" for a mere 50 seconds before a maddening burst of outrage comes from "Torched Scripture" with a bit of punk added to Ross Bay Cult worship. With furious drum fills and barbed wire riffs come "Razor's Blood" with an exercise in simple militant inorganic-sounding fury and determination. The title track is an ode to bloddshed with howls of lust and cranked riffs deying all limits and barriers of speed disregarded completely. Somewhat toned down in the speed angle, but also not really, "Dawn of Misery" has otherworldly grunts and growls to incinerate along with the slowed-down procession from the string before launching into a full-scale barrage of maniacal, frenzied torture. A brief reprieve comes from the interlude "Fadigng Fires" right as "The Clock Is Ticking" rages for six minutes with various tempos and distorted harmonies before ending abruptly in a cacophony of static as the airwaves melt into oblivion.

Short and furious is ths most succinct way to describe this razor-sharp machinery of wanton destruction. No mercy is shown, no quarter is given, and no fucks are had whatsoever, just devilishly delightful death and destruction!

8/10
